About This Project
Thank you for stopping by! My name is Peter Knotts and I’ve been part of Gospel City Church since it was a dream in Pastor Joel’s heart in February of 2015! We prayed then in a coffee shop about whether God was calling us to plant a church in Seoul. He said yes, we moved forward, and he has been blessing our church ever since. Soon after Gospel City came together for our first service in January of 2016, my wife Katrina and I felt a clear calling from the Lord to continue to be part of it. Now the church is thriving, and we know we are right where he wants us to be.
Seoul is a special city. It is one of the biggest in the world; it has people from all over the globe constantly rushing through it; and there is enormous need for Christ here. While many think of the Korean church as strong, it is in reality declining in its influence and size. The younger generation, those who spend a lot of their time partying in our church’s wild and diverse neighborhood of Itaewon, are not nearly so interested in Jesus as their parents and grandparents were. Suicide, sex trafficking, abandoned children, and government corruption are just a few of the serious social problems that are plaguing this great country.
Enter our church. Gospel City wants to join in God’s work to transform our neighborhood. We value authentic community, so we give people the chance to develop real, deep relationships centered on the gospel. We value raising disciples, so we equip our church members with the skills and knowledge necessary to live as disciples and to make disciples of Christ. We value helping the hurting, so we are about to launch For the City, a group that will study our neighborhood, study outreach, study our church, and prayerfully plan out ways for us to impact our neighborhood for Christ.
There is so much more I could tell you about Gospel City! I have chosen to limit myself to the areas I will be most involved in: Community Groups, Discipleship Training, and Outreach. I will be leading a Community Group and coaching the other Community Group Leaders. I will be involved in writing the curriculum for the groups and deciding what their structure looks like. I will also be serving with the Discipleship Ministry at Gospel City. The idea here is to make disciples the way Jesus did, by spending a lot of time and energy on investing in a small group of people. Right now I am a participant in the first Discipleship Group at our church. Next year I will help to lead it. The most exciting area of my involvement will be with For the City and Gospel City’s Outreach Ministry. God has given me a heart to fight for Justice and to see people come to know Jesus. I want to see our church have a relevant, thriving, Christ-centered outreach ministry. I will be helping to lead For the City and overseeing the follow through after we have come up with an outreach plan for our church.
Unlike many church plants, we do not have a mother church or a denomination supporting us financially. Pastor Joel simply felt God calling him to plant a church and he obeyed. We felt led to join him and we did so in faith. This has brought us to a point where we need to raise funds. Gospel City has asked me to raise $750 of my $1500 monthly salary. This money will be spent in the following ways: 50% will go toward living expenses for my wife and I. 30% will go toward my current seminary studies. 20% will go toward our savings.
I am so grateful for your support. It is humbling to accept money from others. It brings a whole different sense of accountability for the way that I spend my time, talents, and resources. I truly believe that Gospel City is a good investment. Thank you for considering supporting my work here through your prayers and your finances.
